Why did Denmark become one of the most corrupt countries. Some years ago was Denmark the least corrupt country in the world according to Transparency International's annual Correption Perception Index. According to the President of Transparency International, this is among other things because the Danish society is built on a high level of trust.

Built on a high level of trust is the answer:

The Danish politicians have abused the trust, voters have given them, and it started in the 1990s.

Some of the events that made politicians corrupt in the 1990s were:

The management philosophy of ENRON's was widespread in Denmark first in the financial sector and then among the political parties.

It became a competition in gilding oneself and one's acquaintances, e.g the period during which the parliamentary politicians
had to be ministers in order to obtain the very lucrative ministerial pension was reduced continuously from 4 years to (1 day).

Many new ministries were created and a rotation principle was introduced so that more politicians could receive a ministerial pension,
only the foreign minister and primeminister were protected from the rotation principle. Bonus salaries and golden handshakes were introduced for employees
in government workplaces and in municipal workplaces. The municipalities around Denmark sold out of values so that politicians could pay
for bonus salaries and the golden handshakes. Enron's management policy also spread to politicians' friends, such as the prime minister who
handed out fishing licenses for millions to an acquaintance and the mayor of Denmark's third largest city Odense, committed serious criminal acts
for his predecessors friend, the old drug lord.
